Department of Anthropology

Anthropology is the study of human diversity in different periods and geographical locations. Among all social sciences, anthropology is a unique discipline for having its distinctive approach and methodology of studying humankind from a holistic perspective. At Jagannath University the Department of Anthropology was established in 2008. But its official activities started on the 5th of April, 2009. The department offers BSS, MSS M.Phil., and Ph.D. programs. Academic activities of this department are currently being carried out in five regular batches and have 410 students in total. There are 22 faculty members, one section officer, two office assistants, and one cleaner in this department. The research interests of the faculty and the research students cover a wide range of issues related to gender, globalization, migration, social exclusion, visual culture, health care, and body politics. The graduates of this department are working in the government sector, corporate sector as well as Non-Government Organizations. The department has an Alumni association that connects the graduates of the department with the current students.
