Welcome to the Department of Physics, Jagannath University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. The members of the Physics Department are committed to provide state-of-art teaching to the students and service to the nation and mankind by creating new knowledge with research and development programs.

Department of Physics, Jagannath University offers Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, Master of Philosophy, Doctor of Philosophy degree. The department has 26 faculty members (Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors and Lecturers), who are well known in their academic arena for their academic and research excellence. Most of the faculty members have achieved their higher degree from the reputed universities of home and abroad. About six hundred students are studying at undergraduate level and about two hundred in graduate level. The students of the department learn not only fundamental subjects such as solid state physics, nuclear physics, classical mechanics, atomic and molecular physics, quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics, electromagnetism, relativity and so on, but also get systematic training on exercises and experiments. The course curriculum of the department is designed to furnish the students with state-of-art knowledge on the subjects as well as enrich their analytical capabilities, planning, critical thinking and communication skills. The students who are engaged in the research get the opportunity to do their works in the frontline fields of solid state physics, nuclear physics, materials science, nano-materials, renewable energy, medical physics and so on.

We always take steps to maintain a congenial and highly collaborative environment for students and researchers to help them to reach their best potential. We are concerned to expand and update the curriculum at regular interval to include topics of current interest.
