A brief introduction:

Dr. Mostafa Hasan is a Professor, has been working in this department since 2008. He has started his academic journey as a Lecturer and became Professor in the department of Social Work of the Shahjalal University of Science & Technology (SUST), Sylhet.

He obtained his BSS (Honours) and MSS (Master’s of Social Science) degree in Social Welfare (both 1st class) from the Institute of Social Welfare and Research (ISWR) of the University of Dhaka. He did his Ph. D on Child Welfare and Child Development from the North Bengal University, West Bengal, India as an ICCR scholar.

Prof. Hasan has a vast administrative experience both from SUST and Jagannath University. He served as a Head/Chairman of the department of Social Work and Anthropology at the SUST and the Jagannath University as well. Prof. Hasan also served as a Dean, Faculty of Social Science and a member of the Jagannath University Syndicate- the apex forum that governs the University. He was elected as the member of the Academic Council of SUST in 2005-07 and the President of the Shahjalal University Teachers’ Association in 2007. He also worked as the General Secretary (GS) (for the session of 1410 Bangla) of the Shahjalal University Club. Presently he is serving as a ‘Executive Member’ of the renowned ‘Social Welfare Alumni Association’ of Dhaka University and as the founder member-secretary of the Jakat and Kallayan Tohbil (Jakat and welfare fund) of Jgannath University Teacher-Officer family.

Prof. Hasan’s academic interest and area of research includes Family and child welfare, Advocacy and counselling, Human rights and social justice, Non-formal and primary education, Drug addiction and addict management, and Women and geriatric welfare. Dr. Hasan served as a member of the editorial Board of the ‘SUST Studies’ in 2006-07 and as the ‘Chief Editor’ of the Jagannath University Journal of Social Sciences (JUJSS) in 2013-14.
