Biography of Abdul Baten (Study Leave)

 Mr. Abdul Baten was born in Comilla, Bangladesh. Now he is working as an Associate Professor at the Department of Statistics, Jagannath University, Dhaka-1100, Bangladesh. Before Joining Jagannath University, he had been working as a Lecturer at another public University (Department of Statistics, Mawlana Bhashani Science & Technology University, Santosh, Tangail-1902) and a Private University (Department of Business Administration, Uttara University, Dhaka-1230) in Bangladesh.

He obtained his Higher Secondary Certificate (H.S.C) in Science group and Secondary School Certificate in Science group from Comilla Board in 2003 and 2001 respectively. Next, he obtained a Bachelor of Science with Honours (B.Sc. Hon’s) and Master of Science (M.S.) in Statistics, Biostatistics and Informatics from the Department of Statistics, Biostatistics and Informatics, Dhaka University (DU), Dhaka, Bangladesh in 2008 and 2009 respectively. He secured first-class third position and first-class second position in Bachelor and Master Programs respectively.

After graduating, he was appointed as a young Statistics lecturer at the Department of Business Administration, Uttara University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. After that, he joined the Department of Statistics, Mawlana Bhashani Science & Technology University, Santosh, Tangail-1902. In 2013 he joined at the Department of Statistics, at Jagannath University, Dhaka-1100, Bangladesh. Later in 2017, he received the prestigious Erasmus Mundus scholarship from European Union. Where his program was conducted by Universitat De Oviedo (Spain) and Universite Catholique de Louvain (Belgium) and the program was entitled with Erasmus Mundus Master Course in Public Health in Disasters. In the program, emphasis was given to Epidemiological Research in disaster settings including basic and some advanced statistical techniques in health problems.  There a thesis has been done as the partial fulfillment of the degree. Now he is continuing his teaching and research at the Department of Statistics, Jagannath University, Dhaka Bangladesh with great zeal.

Mr. Baten taught Business Statistics, Business Mathematics, and Operation Research at Uttara University at both Undergraduate and Post Graduate levels. He taught Basic Statistics, Economic Statistics, and Sampling Techniques at the Mawlana Bhashani Science & Technology University. Having joined Jagannath University’s Department of Statistics, Mr. Baten teaches Introduction to Statistics, Biostatistics, Introduction of Sampling Techniques, Epidemiology, Regression Analysis, Econometrics, Economic Statistics, and Probability Distributions. His current research interests fields are Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Public Health, Demography, and Regression Analysis.
