Biography of Md. Raisul Islam

As a student of Mass Communication and Journalism at Dhaka University, I believed that gaining a few years of professional experience would provide me with a more comprehensive understanding and provide a solid groundwork for my ultimate aspiration of becoming a journalism educator. I have achieved this aspiration by pursuing a career as a journalist in newspapers, starting during my second year as a B.S.S (Honours) student at the university. My professional journalism experiences were enjoyable and beneficial. The integration of theoretical and practical aspects is crucial. In my perspective, journalism education should include theory and practice. I commenced my professional journey in 2002 as a campus reporter for a vernacular national daily. I dedicated one year of my time to this position. Subsequently, I gained employment with multiple daily publications, electronic media outlets, and non-governmental organisations. I have held many jobs at thedaily, including Trainee reporter, sub-editor, editorial panel assistant programme producer, and head of online. During my time there, I have covered a wide range of topics such as politics, environment, health, business, and technology. I highly appreciate my journalism experiences as they have greatly contributed to the development of my crucial ability to effectively communicate with others. Additionally, I have gained practical knowledge in the essential aspects of news gathering, writing, and editing. After accumulating almost three years of professional experience as a journalist, I deemed it opportune to reenter the field that truly resonated with my aspirations. Consequently, I embarked on a new career path as an educator at the Department of Journalism and Media Studies at Stamford University Bangladesh. Following almost four years of professional experience as a Lecturer and Senior Lecturer, I became a member of the Mass Communication and Journalism Department at Jagannath University.
