Prof. Alam is currently working as a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Jagannath University, Dhaka. He is an eminent Organic Chemist. His present research is mainly focused on Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Natural Product Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Supramolecular Chemistry, and Transition Metal Chemistry. He has contributed with his expertise to accelerate the research activities in different branches of chemistry. According to the AD Scientific Index, his position in chemical sciences is 12th in Bangladesh.
 
He received his PhD degree from Tottori University, Japan in 2007 and was awarded the MONBUKAGAKUSHO: MEXT Fellowship. He also obtained an M. Phil degree from Rajshahi University in 2003 with RU research fellowship. He was awarded both the Bachelor of Science (Hons.) degree in 1994 (1997) and Master of Science (Thesis) in Organic Chemistry degree in 1995 (1999) from the Department of Chemistry, University of Rajshahi (RU) with 1stclass and secured 1st position in both the examinations. He secured 1stdivision in the SSC examination from Shibnath High School, Tangail (1989) and 1st Division in the HSC examination from Govt. M. M. Ali College, Tangail (1991). He received several scholarships throughout his academic career which include: the Primary School Scholarship, Rajshahi University Scholarship for Brilliant Results in every academic year, the NST fellowship (1998), and the MEXT Scholarship of Japan (2004-2007). He obtained several awards such as the Suhrawardy Hall Gold Medal and Rajshahi University Award in 1998 for excellent results in the B. Sc. (Hons.) examination, and Rajshahi University Award in 2000 for excellent results in the M. Sc. examination.
 
He started his job in September 2001 as a lecturer in the Department of Chemistry, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology, and also worked as an Assistant Professor in the same Department until June 2008. In July 2008, he got an Associate Professor Position in the Department of Chemistry, at Jagannath University. He did his Postdoctoral Research at Dongguk University, Korea. He was promoted to Professor in the same Department of Jagannath University in July 2013. He also worked as a foreign professor in the Department of Biotechnology, at Dongguk University, Korea from March 2014 to December 2016. He visited Yeungnam University, Daegu, South Korea in 2001 and Konkuk University, Seoul, South Korea in 2003 as a research fellow. He is an expert member of the Curriculum Development of the Department of Chemistry of different Universities of Bangladesh. He has supervised a good number of M. Sc. and M. Phil students.
 
He has 56 peer-reviewed articles published in national and international journals with a total impact factor of 69.326 and his contribution as a first author is in 44 articles. According to Google Scholar, his total citation is 1214, h-index is 23, and i10-index is 29. He has 27 abstracts published as contributions in scientific meetings including Keynote and Invited talks in national and international conferences. He publishes regularly in high-impact factor Journals published by Elsevier, Springer, Wiley, and Bentham Science, etc. His research interests include the fields of organic synthesis, chemical biology, natural product chemistry, medicinal chemistry, supramolecular chemistry, and transition metal complexes. He has received Fifteen Research Grants and completed the research projects funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), the Ministry of Education (MoE), and the Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC). Prof. Alam served as an Associated Editor and member of the Editorial Board of Jagannath University Journal of Science. Currently, he is serving as a co-Guest Editor of Frontiers in Chemistry, (Frontiers, Switzerland). He is a potential reviewer of some international journals published by Elsevier, Springer, MDPI, WILEY-VCH, Frontiers, and different professional societies.
 
He is a Life Member of Bangladesh Chemical Society, Bangladesh Crystallographic Association, Rajshahi University Alumni Association (RUAA), and Japanese Universities Alumni Association in Bangladesh (JUAAB). He is a member of IUPAC, the Indian Chemical Society, the Japan Pesticide Science Society, and the Pharmaceutical Society of Korea. He is a member of the Executive Committee of Bangladesh Chemical Society (2021-22). He has served as Director of Students Welfare (DSW) at Jagannath University. He was the founder chairman of the Department of Pharmacy and also served as a chairman of the Department of Chemistry at Jagannath University. He is currently the student advisor of the Department of Chemistry, JnU. He visited several countries of the world which include: Japan, South Korea, India, Malaysia, Thailand, and China.
