Biography of Shahana Sultana (on study leave to Australia)

I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography and Environment, Jagannath University. In 2016, I joined as a Lecturer here. I completed my Bachelor and Masters Degree from the Department of Geography and Environment, University of Dhaka. My Masters specialization was Planning and Development, and my thesis was about the affordable housing of the garment (RMG) workers in Dhaka city. My area of research interests are urban informality, urban economy,  urban housing and urban governance.

Before joining at Jagannath University, I worked at the Urban Studio of University of Dhaka. I was involved with a government funded project Adaptation of climate change induced and environmentally stressed internally displaced peoples (IDPs): Study on the Dhaka Metropolitan Region. Parallelly, I also prepared a research monograph on 'The Trends of Geographic Research in Bangladesh since 1950s'. I also worked at the Centre for Urban Studies (CUS) on a UNDP funded project Mapping Urban Poor Settlements and Vacant Lands of 27 UPPR Towns of Bangladesh. I have been working in the field of geography and environment for more than ten years.
