Biography of Md. Jillur Rahman

 

 

Short Bio

Jillur Rahman is working as Assistant Professor in Economics at Jagannath University, Dhaka. Prior to joining at the University, he worked as a Research Associate at South Asian Network on Economic Modeling (SANEM). He has completed his Bachelors and Masters in Economics from Dhaka University with excellent academic result.

 

Mr Rahman has been extensively engaged in policy research. He has more than five years of experience in conducting and implementing challenging research in the area of development economics, international trade and investment, labour market and human resource development, and social protection. Currently he is implementing a RAPID-CUTS International joint research on Digital exports of Bangladesh and impact of data localization. Recently he has worked as a co-investigator in a UNDESA study on “En Route to LDC Graduation: Firm-level preparedness in the textile and clothing sector”; Consultant Researcher in a PRI-ODI study on the Potential Revenue Implications of Free Trade Agreements: An Empirical Analysis on Bangladesh; in an IOM study on Labour Market Information System (LMIS) in Bangladesh; a Co-author in a UNDP-commissioned study on Mid-term implementation review of the National Social Security Strategy (NSSS); in an UNDP commissioned study on the Rohingya refugee crisis in analysing the impact on the host community; in a Commonwealth Secretariat study on LDC graduation and its implication on RMG exports. He was a Consultant Researcher in a Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI) project on Trade and Investment. Under this project, he co-authored a number of papers on LDC graduation, export market analyses, and sector-specific analysis.

 

Mr. Rahman has implemented a number of primary surveys including a firm-level survey of RMG exporters, a household survey of host community in Cox’s Bazar district, a household survey on the bank of Jamuna river to assess the impact of early warning system on the flood affected communities. He has mastered himself in analysing primary data using quantitative tools. Besides, he did extensive work on secondary data from WDI, OECD, UNCTAD, Bangladesh Bank and BBS etc. Mr Rahman have worked in a number of projects commissioned by different national and international organizations including, among others, UNDP, UNDESA, UNESCAP, ILO, IOM, UNICEF, RTI International, PORTICUS, Planning Commission of Bangladesh etc.

 

Field of Interest

To carry out economic and market research, evaluation, policy reform and impact assessment studies in the area of Applied Microeconometrics, Labour Market, International Trade, Development Economics and Social Security.

 

Technical Expertise

  • Implementing market research and impact assessment (micro- and macro-economic)
  • Empirical research (including econometric modeling) in development and international trade
  • Expertise in analysing quantitative and qualitative data using statistical tools
  • Conducting and implementing primary surveys including designing questionnaire, pilot test and data analysis
  • Efficient in handling and analysing primary data including Household Income and Expenditure Survey (HIES) and Labour Force Survey (LFS)
  • General and partial equilibrium models (i.e. GTAP, SMART, TRIST etc.)
