Biography of Mezbah-Ul-Azam Sowdagar

Mezbah-Ul-Azam Sowdagar is currently serving as an Associate Professor and the Chairperson of the Department of Political Science in Jagannath University. Previously he served as a Lecturer and Assistant Professor since 2008 and 2012 respectively in the same department of the University. At the beginning of his career Mr. Sowdagar also served as a civil servant to the government of Bangladesh since 2005-2008. 

Mr. Sowdagar did his Honours and Master’s degree in Political Science from the University of Dhaka with first class 2nd position in Master's level. He also received his 2nd Master’s degree M.A in International Relations in 2013 from the Graduate School of Asia Pacific Studies (GSAPS) of Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan under the prestigious Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship program  in 2011-2013.

During his study in Japan he has critically examined the climate Diplomacy of Bangladesh and completed his Master thesis entitled Climate Diplomacy: Assessing Bangladesh’s Participation in United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change under the supervision of Professor Yamaoka Michio and Professor Mitomo Hitoshi. In his thesis Mr. Sowdagar has proposed a model of diplomatic negotiation for Bangladesh which, he named as Non Finance Policy Approach for Climate Compensation (NPACC), was appraised by the GSAPS Professors. During his study Mr. Sowdagar has experienced project research work on International cooperation in the Asia Pacific Region  under the leadership of internationally famous professor Yamaoka Michio of GSAPS.

Mr. Sowdagar has published number of articles in many nationally and internationally famous peer reviewed journals including BIISS Journal, Jagannath University Journal of Social Sciences, Jagannath University Journal of Arts, Shahjalal University Journal of Politics and Administration etc. Currently He is working as an Associate Editor of the Jagannath University Journal of Social Sciences and also contributing as a reviewer of some national and international peer reviewed journals. He also participated in many national and international seminars, conferences and workshops at home and abroad.

His current area of interest includes local governance, global environmental governance, international climate negotiation, and East Asia centric international order and security etc.

Currently Mr. Sowdagar is teaching Global Environmental Governance and Bangladesh and Public Policy Making with Reference to Bangladesh in Honours and Master's level respectively. Previously he tought number of courses including Introduction to International Relations, Introduction to Geo-Politics, Contemporary International Politics, Governance Studies etc.

Mr. Sowdagar is a member of Bangladesh Political Science Association (BPSA) and Waseda University Alumnai Association, Tokyo, Japan.
