Welcome to the Department of Accounting & Information Systems

It is my immense pleasure to introduce the Department of Accounting & Information Systems (AIS) as one of the oldest departments of Jagannath University. It is the foremost and one of the popular departments in the Jagannath University as well as in the business field of our country. The Department of Accounting & Information Systems (previously named The Department of Accounting) is a part of the Faculty of Business Studies at Jagannath University. It is one of the largest, in terms of the number of students, departments and premier department of Jagannath University.

Currently, the Department offers Undergraduate (BBA), Graduate (MBA) and Postgraduate (M.Phil, Ph.D) programs in Accounting with a clear philosophy to develop in students the required knowledge and understanding of theoretical concepts and practical techniques for accounting profession and overall managerial disciplines. The department offers Ph.D and M.Phil degrees to suitable candidates under the supervision of distinguished faculty members who are internationally acclaimed researchers in their specialized areas. In response to the socioeconomic demands, the Department of Accounting & Information Systems have launched Master of Business Administration (Evening) program uniquely suited to the Accounting discipline, catering to the increasing demand for accounting and tax professional representing both public and private sectors. Our students learn to assess how accounting is implemented in a multifaceted and contingent environment in organizational and institutional process.

The academic programs of the Department are conducted by highly qualified and foreign trained academic personnel who have exceptional academic background. Distinguished scholars through their laudable efforts have made the programs the most coveted. A large number of faculty members – individually and in teams – are actively engaged in research and have pioneered many research publications in the reputed journals. In addition to their commitment to teaching and research, faculty members play an important role in the affairs of the university and the community at large. A good number of our faculties are serving in the different boards of many public enterprises. We have well-decorated office of the Chairman of the Department, conference room, and oral examination room and well-furnished room for each faculty member with internet connection. The Department is actively involved in organizing different extracurricular activities such as conferences, seminars, workshops, sports, study tours, picnic and various cultural programs in addition to the regular classroom activities.

We have Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a number of national and international professional accounting bodies (ICAB, ICMAB, ACCA) which will benefit our students. Each year we arrange various seminars, workshops and research symposiums on the contemporary issues of accounting where we invite various renowned academics and practitioners.

The Department of Accounting & Information Systems has strong alumni named Accounting Alumni. The scholarship fund was created through generous contributions by alumni members, internally generated fund, and contributions from departmental teachers. This initiative has paved the way for uninterrupted education for underprivileged students.

I am confident enough that the present hardworking, honest, dedicated, sincere lot of budding professionals would meet the diversified expectations of the organizations across the industry.
