Message from the Chairman

Welcome to the Department of Anthropology

The main mission of the department is to develop skilled human resources capable of meeting the challenges of the real world. The department aspires to provide world-class education in line with the demands of the job market and the needs of the community. The faculty members of the department are actively engaged in research and teaching. They are experts in diversified issues such as ethnicity, migration and diaspora studies, ecology, gender, social inequality, and development.

The department offers PhD, MPhil, MSS, and BSS programs in Anthropology. Our undergraduate and graduate courses allow students to gain knowledge and training about diverse issues related to the subfields of Anthropology. Our students receive training in core areas of Anthropology with a specific focus on research methods, and theory. Our graduates successfully pursue careers in the government, nonprofit, and private sectors.

At the Department of Anthropology, students gain an understanding of human biological and cultural diversity. In a world, that is continuously been changed by the forces of globalization, human diversity is also interconnected with multiple complex factors such as ethnicity, migration, movement of capital, and so on. The Department of Anthropology at Jagannath University offers critical insights into the issues of the contemporary world through a holistic perspective. The department is committed to training both undergraduate and postgraduate students to use ethnographic techniques to capture the diverse experiences of people and communities.
