Message from the Chairman
Welcome to the Department of Psychology
It is a privilege to serve as the Chairman of a department distinguished for its academic excellence, dedicated faculty, and dynamic student body. As I assume this role, I am filled with a deep sense of purpose and a commitment to collaborative leadership.
My vision is to revitalize and elevate our department’s research and development initiatives while ensuring our students are equipped with the practical skills and real-world experiences necessary to meet challenges with confidence and resilience. In a world that is rapidly evolving, our responsibility is to cultivate intellectual curiosity and empower our students to engage meaningfully in evidence-based practice and scholarly inquiry.
I have unwavering confidence in the exceptional capabilities of our faculty and the passion of our students. Together, we can lead efforts to promote openness, foster social awareness, and advance the mental and psychological well-being of our communities. Rooted in science, driven by innovation, and guided by research, we are uniquely positioned to shape the future of psychology on a global scale.
Our department remains steadfast in its mission to merge rigorous theoretical foundations with hands-on application. Through programs that emphasize critical thinking, scientific rigor, and ethical integrity, we prepare students not only to understand the complexities of human behavior but also to make meaningful contributions to society.
As we move forward, my focus will be on strengthening our academic programs, supporting groundbreaking research, and nurturing an inclusive and inspiring environment where every member of our community can thrive. With unity, determination, and a shared commitment to excellence, we will continue to spark innovation and drive transformative impact from our strong and steadfast foundation.

About Department of Psychology
Established in 1966 as an independent academic unit at the former Jagannath College, the Department of Psychology at Jagannath University has grown into a vibrant center for psychological education and research. It began its journey by offering a two-year Bachelor of Science (Pass) program, laying the groundwork for decades of academic development and expansion.
In 1986, the department took a significant step forward by introducing a Master of Science (MSc) program in Psychology under the Faculty of Science. The launch of the Bachelor of Science (Honors) program in the 2002–2003 academic session marked a transformative moment, enhancing the department’s role as a comprehensive institution dedicated to both undergraduate and postgraduate education.
Since the 2005–2006 academic session, the department has offered a modern, semester-based curriculum that includes a four-year BSc Honours program and a one-year MSc program.
Currently, it supports a diverse student body of around 400 individuals, including 350 undergraduate students, and 65 postgraduates, as well as several 04 MPhil and 04 PhD researchers reflecting its strong academic reputation and research orientation.
The department is deeply committed to delivering a well-rounded education that balances psychological theory, scientific inquiry, and real-world application. It offers specialized one-year MSc programs in three key domains: Clinical and Counseling Psychology, Educational and Developmental Psychology, and Industrial and Organizational Psychology. These targeted programs are designed to align with contemporary professional demands and equip students with both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required for success in various sectors.
Beyond its academic offerings, the department actively fosters research through its MPhil and PhD programs, encouraging innovation and scholarly contribution to the field. In response to the evolving landscape of psychology, it has also introduced professional training initiatives that support skill development and career readiness.
With its longstanding legacy, forward-thinking curriculum, and commitment to academic excellence, the Department of Psychology continues to play a leading role in shaping the future of psychological education and research in Bangladesh.
