About Faculty of Arts
Jagannath University was established in 2005. Subsequently, in 2006, the Faculty of Arts was inaugurated with six departments: Bangla, English, History, Philosophy, Islamic History and Culture, and Islamic Studies. In 2013, the departments of Music and Drama, as well as Fine Arts and Graphic Design, were introduced under the Faculty of Arts. Over time, Music and Drama evolved into separate departments, and Fine Arts and Graphic Design was renamed the Department of Fine Arts. Most recently, in December 2023, the Honorable Vice-Chancellor of Jagannath University, Prof. Sadeka Halim, PhD, announced the establishment of the Department of Fine Arts within the newly formed Faculty of Fine Arts. Currently, the Faculty of Arts stands as the largest faculty within the university, comprising eight departments.
The Faculty of Arts conducts the academic activities of these departments. Two research journals are published every year by the faculty. The faculty office is located of the New Academic Building. Each of the departments of this faculty contributes to education and innovative research in the fields of languages, literature, history, philosophy, religious views and studies, music, theater etc. for graduate and post-graduate students as well as for students who are aspirants to higher studies in related subjects of the humanities and social sciences under the faculty of arts. Occasionally, various departments within the Faculty of Arts organize an array of cultural programs, workshops, and both national and international seminars. These events cover a wide range of topics, fostering intellectual growth and cultural exchange. Additionally, the faculty frequently hosts invited lectures, interdisciplinary conferences, and collaborative projects, providing students and faculty with numerous opportunities to engage with contemporary issues and global perspectives. Thus, the Faculty of Arts has been contributing to the promotion of arts and humanities studies in our society.
Within the Faculty of Arts, twelve Deans, including Professor Dr. Rais Uddin from the Department of Islamic Studies has successfully completed his tenure. Currently, Professor Dr. Hosne Ara Begum from Department of Bangla has been serving as Dean.

Jagannath University Journal of Arts
The Jagannath University Journal of Arts (ISSN 2519-5816) promotes original, innovative and rigorous research on the arts and humanities. The journal is double-blind, peer-reviewed and open access refereed focusing on both theoretical and empirical researches. It is published twice a year containing two volumes with the papers written in Bengali and English languages. It welcomes articles which deploy inter-disciplinary and comparative research methods. Jagannath University Journal of Arts specialises in the publication of longer monographic essays based on path-breaking new research; it carries substantial synoptic essays which illuminate the state of the broad field in fresh ways.
