Welcome to the Faculty of Science

Jagannath university is a reputed public university in Bangladesh having a long historical legacy of about 150 years evolving from Brahma School to Jagannath School to Jagannath College to Jagannath University. It is located near the river Buriganga at the southern part of Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh. The number of faculty members currently serving this university is more than 650 and the number students studying are nearly 18000.

The university offers its academic programs in 40 disciplines. It has been serving as a hub of knowledge, research and innovation from the time of its inception and playing vital role for creating a knowledge-based society. Faculty of Science is one of the four original Faculties (Arts, Science, Commerce, and Social Sciences) with which the University started its journey. Initially, department of Botany, Chemistry, Geography & Environment, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Zoology were included in the faculty.

Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology and Department of Pharmacy were added to the Faculty of Sciences in 2009-10. In 2011, according to the decisions of the 15th Academic Council and 39th Syndicate Meeting, Faculty of Science was restructured with Department of Chemistry, Department of Mathematics, Department of Physics, Department of Statistics, and Department of Computer Science.

The faculty of science currently offers a range of programs including four-year Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) (Honours), Master of Science (M.Sc.), and MPhil and PhD degree. Additionally, it offers Professional Masters Programs in three departments (CSE, Mathematics, and Chemistry). The faculty members are actively engaged in research across various fields of natural sciences, frequently publishing their research in various international journals having high impact factor. The faculty regularly publishes a biennial, double-blind peer-reviewed journal named “Jagannath University Journal of Science”. The faculty of science comprises a total of 119 teachers with 60% holding Ph. D. degree from prestigious universities worldwide. The faculty prides itself on its highly qualified, dynamic members who continuously create and disseminate new knowledge.
