Profile of The Faculty
In 2005, Jagannath University was established, and subsequently, the Faculty of Commerce was instituted, incorporating the Department of Accounting and the Department of Management from the now-defunct Commerce of Government Jagannath College. The formal commencement of this journey started on February 13, 2006, with the appointment of Professor Ashraf Hossain from Department of Management as the Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies, Jagannath University. In the year 2006, two new departments, Department of Finance & Department of Marketing, have started their journey. On March 13, 2010, the names of the Department of Accounting and Management were changed to the Department of Accounting and Information Systems and the Department of Management Studies, respectively. In a decision made during the 77th Syndicate meeting on April 26, 2018, the Faculty of Commerce was renamed as the Faculty of Business Studies.
The Dean
Since the inception of the Faculty of Business Studies till to date, eleven Deans including the founder Dean Professor Ashraf Hossain from the Department of Management Studies have successfully completed their tenures. Currently, Professor Dr. Md. Monzur Morshed Bhuiya from the Department of Finance serves as the Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies since February 7, 2024.

At present, the Faculty of Business Studies boasts 83 teachers, 9 officers, 32 employees, and approximately 2786 students.
Published Journals
The total number of published volumes is 12, No.1 as of June 2024.
Faculty Activities
The Faculty actively coordinates among its departments, holding departmental meetings with chairpersons to facilitate academic and administrative activities. Meetings of the executive committee address course and curriculum matters for all departments within the faculty, including revisions, changes, and approvals by the academic council. The executive committee also convenes to recommend research proposals for M. Phil and Ph.D. researchers, overseeing their implementation. The journal committee reviews researchers' articles, culminating in a meeting for final selection and publication. The annual admission process of C Unit (Business Studies) in BBA Program under the Faculty of Business Studies are being conducted regularly. The Faculty provides grants for university, financial assistance for seminars and the medical treatment to financially disadvantaged students, and support for various competitive activities. Additionally, the faculty admits 100 students for each department per semester into the MBA (Professional) program across the four departments. Since its inception, the Faculty of Business Studies has played a crucial role in molding successful and productive citizens through its commitment to financial management and, higher education, and research.

Message from the Dean
Welcome to the Faculty of Business Studies
The Faculty of Business Studies was established in 2005 with a mission to produce efficient business graduates who will contribute directly to fostering the economic growth of our nation. Currently, four departments are conducting their programs under this faculty.
The four departments are Accounting & Information Systems, Management Studies, Finance and Marketing. The semester system was introduced in this Faculty from the very beginning i.e. the first batch (session 2005-2006). The FBS is offering Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) degrees for undergraduate and post-graduate students respectively.
In addition, the MBA (Professional) program has been running successfully since 2013 to produce quality business graduates in line with the demand of the business industry. At present there are a good number of qualified teachers, skilled employees and around 2100 students in the four departments under this Faculty. The faculty is also planning to introduce two new departments in future considering the strong demand for business education in our country.
The key responsibility of the faculty of a university is to generate knowledge through research, and to disseminate knowledge for the welfare of the society and country. The FBS has been efficiently discharging this responsibility by generating and disseminating knowledge for the academia and industry. With a continuous improvement perspective, the FBS is dedicated to maintaining and raising its high standards in quality education and research by moving with solid steps to achieve its mission which emphasizes serving academic and business communities locally and globally through creation of knowledge and education of professionals in business studies.
Our faculty expertise includes, but is not restricted to, areas such as accounting, operations management, management information system finance, banking, international business and marketing. Their theoretical and practical experiences enrich their classroom teaching and offer broad, relevant perspectives needed to develop managerial and leadership skills. The faculty members of FBS are active and prolific in their research output in high ranked peer-reviewed journals, books, book chapters and research grants. With our smart and diligent students, dedicated high-caliber faculty, well positioned alumni and motivated business partners, we believe that the FBS community will grow further in serving the talents’ needs of the business world.
The FBS maintains a strong linkage with the business community. Besides, business leaders and managers are invited on a regular basis to conduct seminars and workshops for the students and faculty members. The faculty is gaining its competence day by day to satisfy the market needs of our graduates in the real world.
