About Faculty of Law
The Law Department at Jagannath University began its journey in 2008 under the Faculty of Arts. Then in 2012 the Department got its own Faculty. Globally, law departments have a tradition of functioning under a single faculty. However, the trend has embraced change for new dimensions added to world phenomena. As such, in 2016 the Faculty introduced a second Department named Land Management and Law.
The Department of Law offers four-year LLB (Honors) programme and one-year regular LLM programme. Alongside, it runs one-year LLM (Professional) Program. The Department also introduced Mphil and PhD programmes in 2012.
The Department of Land Management and Law offers four-year LLB (Honors) programme and one-year regular LLM programme.Courses cover a wide range of legal and policy issues regarding land management in Bangladesh. The Department introduced Mphil Program In 2021.
Besides theoretical courses both departments have practical courses like Trial advocacy, Moot Court, Drafting and conveyancing, court visits, internship and legal research. In addition, the Department of Law has a Moot Court Society and the Department of Land Management and Law has a Land Law Club.
Another important feature is the Faculty of Law has its own journal “The Jagannath University Journal of Law”. The journal is peer reviewed and published once a year. Faculty members from home and abroad publish their research work in it.

Welcome to the Faculty of Law
I am honored to serve as Dean. Initially the Law Department started its journey under the Faculty of Arts in 2008. Since becoming a Faculty in 2012, we have earned a national reputation for educational excellence, academic rigor, and the highest standards of professionalism. Our Faculty is a unique one with two departments; The Department of Law and The Department of Land Management and Law introduced in 2016.
We are a community of bright and engaged students. Usually the best students qualifying in the admission exam opt for our departments, which gives us a distinctiveness. Our talented faculty, having excellent academic records, expertise and experience in different aspects and areas of laws share a profound commitment to mentoring and advising students.
Besides our regular LLB (Hons) and LLM program, we offer MPhil and PhD. There is also an LLM professional program for students wishing to pursue a public university degree. This expansion has enhanced the richness and diversity of the faculty.
At Jagannath we have a curriculum that incorporates both hands-on professional practice experience and scholarly excellence. The legal profession is constantly evolving and to keep up with the increasing complexities of society we continually strive to be at the lead of understanding this change, seeking new opportunities to deliver value to our students and society as a whole. Our graduates join the workforce with confidence and commitment to establish justice wherever they are. We also have a bunch of enthusiastic and accomplished alumni who are continuously willing to support their departments.
I must also mention our dedicated staffs of the department and faculty office who are always happy to support both faculties and students.

Jagannath University Journal of Law
The Jagannath University Journal of Law is a blind peer reviewed publication by the Faculty of Law of Jagannath University. Its broad objective is to facilitate spread of new knowledge and foster creativity among the researchers. It publishes two volumes in a year. The Journal welcomes original, innovative and scholarly research work in the field of law. Besides, it accepts papers which display a blend of law and other disciplines both in theoretical and empirical forms. Read More
