Welcome to the Office of the Vice-Chancellor
As the Vice Chancellor of Jagannath University, it is my privilege and delight to welcome everybody to this institution. Being one of the oldest educational institutions in Dhaka as well as in Bangladesh, and at the same time pursuing the highest excellence in producing creative minds for the 21st Century, Jagannath University harbours both traditional values and cutting-edge methods in higher education.
As the Vice Chancellor of this public university, I am constantly in conversation with the stakeholders of this institution: students, professors, alumni, non-academic supporting staff, researchers, members of various higher committees, our national and international partners, government, and, above all the citizens of the country.
However, this endeavour is never solitary, nor is unilateral. I deeply appreciate the contribution of the Faculty Members in different departments in this venture. I am in debt to my colleagues for their unwavering support and the hardship they put up with to keep the university on the track of excellence. Our Faculty Members are erudite, and many of them possess highly acclaimed international degrees. They are dedicated and research oriented. Despite various challenges and the scarcity of resources, our esteemed faculty members are always striving to educate young minds and prepare them to brave the challenges of the 21st Century. As the Vice-Chancellor, I try to ease and facilitate the process of educational development in this institution, and I am downright committed to my responsibility. I believe, our Faculty Members’ diligence and commitment to the institution as well as to the nation are the driving force behind the eminence of this institution.
In addition, at the core of our commitment and success are our students. They are the centre of all our academic and extra-curricular activities. As an education-first institution, Jagannath University prioritizes all its functions and tasks for the betterment of the students and their education. Our students are equally reciprocating. They are showcasing their talents on different platforms and placing the signs of their excellence in different competitive examinations. They are achieving international scholarships and brightening the name and glory of their alma mater in different corners of the world. Our students with the guidance and care of our Faculty Members are proving to be the excellent ambassador of our achievement.
Yet all these achievements would fall short without the presence of supportive non-academic officials. I am very glad to testify that the Registrar’s Office, the Library, the Exam Office, the Student Welfare Office, the ICT Cell, the Proctor Office and numerous other offices are always at arm’s length to provide support to the students and the Faculty Members at Jagannath University. Their support and silent but diligent work have made the smooth operation of this institution possible.
Jagannath University proudly showcases a rich heritage of more than one hundred and fifty years. This institution played a significant role in the nationalist and liberation movements of Bangla and Bangali. I commemorate those contributions with deep gratitude and a profound sense of pride. This institution gifted the first Language Martyr, Rafiq, to the nation in 1952. This institution played an important role in the 6 Point Movement of 66, the Mass Upsurge of 69 and the Liberation War of 1971. This institution’s participation and contribution to different social, intellectual and political movements is well known to the nation and its history. I desire that students will come to this university not to earn a degree only. They will turn into leaders and entrepreneurs. They will learn empathy and critical reasoning. They will be patriots but not narrow nationalists, and they will rise to the level of international compassion. I encourage everyone to delve into the rich past of Jagannath University and appreciate the endeavour this university is making to encounter the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. We are committed to the nation as well as to humanity to providing humanistic education befitting to citizens of the 21st Century.
My heartiest felicitation towards the future scholars that now tread on the ground of Jagannath University. We uphold both the tradition and hospitality of Old Dhaka. At the same time, we look forward to the world to explore and conquer through our academic excellence. The collective hands of our esteemed Faculty Members and Officials along with the potential of our students take us close to closer in realizing our dream to become one of the eminent knowledge producers in the world, a true contributor to the ‘Smart Bangladesh’, the honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s ‘Vision 2041’. Every day we take another step closer to making “Sonar Bangla”, the dream of our Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
I welcome all of you aboard.
Joy Bangla!
