Biography of Prof. Dr. Md. Sheikh Giash Uddin

Dr. Md. Sheikh Giash Uddin is working as Professor in this department. He was in charge of the department as chairman from February 8, 2020 to February 7, 2023. Before joining this department, he worked in the department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Institute of Child and Mother Health, Dhaka, Government of the People's republic of Bangladesh. He has been working in the field of health, nutrition and population sector for more than 25 years. He completed his Post graduation diploma from Cairo Demographic Centre, Egypt in 2000 and PhD from the Jahangirnagar University, Dhaka, Bangladesh in 2007. He developed injury surveillance methods for low income countries.

Dr Giashuddin  has published 39 scientific articles on public health issues including family planning in various peer reviewed journals. He has presented more than 20 papers as main author in several conferences related to Population and Health. He is joint secretary of Executive Committee of Bangladesh Statistical Association (BSA), Executive member of Center for Injury Prevention and Research Bangladesh (CIPRB). He is also regular member of International Union for the Scientific Study on Population (IUSSP) and Population Association of America (PAA).
