Biography of Dr. Shayer Mahmood Ibney Alam

I am a biologist, working primarily with genetic tools to address evolutionary and conservation problems. I have experience in teaching and research – in the field and the laboratory, and I am looking for the next challenge to build my research career.

I joined the Department of Zoology of Jagannath University as a Lecturer in March 2012. I was later promoted as an Assistant professor in December 2013 and recently as an Associate Professor in March 2022. My responsibilities include, among others:

·      Conduct research and publish scientific articles

·      Teaching (class lectures, field works, and lab exercises)

·      Curriculum development

·      Mentoring and supervise students

·      Be a part of the examination management committee

·      Represent department and university on my field of interest.

I completed my PhD from the Centre for Conservation Ecology and Genomics (CCEG) under the Institute for Applied Ecology (IAE) of the University of Canberra, Australia. My research focussed on the Sex chromosome evolution and sex determination mechanisms in Agamid/Dragon lizards (reptiles); however, my research interest encompasses evolutionary and conservation genomics and ecological aspects of wildlife conservation.
