Biography of Dr. Ashek Mahmud

 

Dr. Ashek Mahmud, with the nationality of Bangladesh, is working at Jagannath University, Bangladesh, holding the position of Associate Professor, Department of Sociology. He has been at this University since 2011. He secured undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh.

 
 Dr. Ashek successfully gained a Ph.D. degree from the University of Malaya, Malaysia, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Department of Media and Communication Studies in 2020. His Ph.D. was entitled ‘Prevalent Use of Smartphone and Its Impacts on Social Capital among University Students of Bangladesh’. His research interests lie in media studies, social capital, and social development. He has a published book (2013) entitled “Corporate Media and Globalization’ from Agama Publication, Dhaka. 
 
He has 18 published articles, book, and book chapters of which 8 publications are on the web of science and Scopus indexed. Besides, he presented a research paper at the International Symposium on Community-Led Social Work Interventions for Sustainable Development (ISCSD-2020).He also presented a research paper in an international conference in Calcata, India. He has also published  two poetry books on the social issues named 'Modhu Moricika' and 'Dhushor Samaj". Furthermore, Dr. Ashek publsihed several articles in different newspapers. 
 
 Dr. Ashek Mahmud has teaching experience in different courses such as sociology of development, sociology of mass communication, urban sociology, modern sociological theories, and risk & society. The major research fields of Dr. Mahmud are consumer culture, mass media, mass communication, cultural studies, social development, and crime deviance and culture.
